Pittsburgh 5k weekend

The weekend started out alright with us making out the trip to Pittsburgh to visit our family up north of Pittsburgh.  The general idea of the weekend was for us to run in the Pirates Charities 5k that starts on Federal Street and ends within PNC Park, the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates.  The entire track of the race was beautiful.  You ran down along the Mon River and then made a U-turn and ran along the little trail along the Mon underneath all of the bridges and next to all of the beautifully down War Memorials.  This was definitely an experience for our first 5k, but it is definitely one that we will do again, and hopefully we will have more time to workout up to it so we can finish with better times.

One of the best parts was the fact that when you signed up for the 5k, each person got a medal, a t-shirt, and a free ticket to one of the baseball games that was happening this weekend, depending on the availability of the tickets.  We were able to get two tickets for that night's game of the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Milwaukee Brewers.  The Pirates played a great game and thanks to Starling Marte's 3-run homer, the Pirates won the game 6-2.

However, not everything went well this weekend.  On our way to the 5k, our oldest child ended up being bitten on the hand by one of her grandparent's Scottish Terriers.  Luckily no stitches were needed, but her hand needs to be wrapped in a  bandage everyday, with fashionable Co-Flex.

Before the game on Saturday night, my wife and I were able to go on a dinner date by ourselves at a wonderful restaurant that we actually just stumbled upon while exploring Downtown looking for a place to eat.  We stumbled upon Meat & Potatoes.  The food was amazing and the cocktails that we each tried were definitely different from our norm, but still delicious.  To drink, my wife tried the Bufala Negra, and I tried the Three Dots and a Dash.  The Bufala Negra included Buffalo Trace, ginger, a  balsamic reduction, basil, brown sugar, and Pittsburgh Seltzer.  The Three Dots and a Dash was definitely different for me and consisted of a blend of the house rum, honey, falernum, allspice, orange juice and lime.  One of the main things that we saw purchased by three of the groups around us while at the restaurant was the Meat & Potatoes for Two, which consisted of a 34 oz Ribeye, steak fries, mushroom ragu, homemade steak sauce, and a bone marrow gratin.

Unfortunately, we finished off the weekend with our check engine coming on when we were just about to leave Pittsburgh, and we found that the Upstream Tubing on a sensor had popped off and needed to be replaced.  Luckily the car was still drivable and we could just fix it when we got back to our house.
